Below is a brief hint about what will be going on this summer. This information is all included in the registration packet. Kids who do not register are still welcome to attend library programs.

Dear Parents,

Your children are invited to join the Saratoga Springs Public Library’s Summer Reading Program and attend the fun programs and events we are planning for children ages 18 months to thirteen years. This summer’s theme, “Fizz, Boom, Read!,” explores all kinds of science topics from the five senses to animals and more. The programs are free and open to children of all abilities.

The public library cares about your children and has planned programs to keep them reading and learning all summer. Whether keeping track of the amount of time your children spend reading or participating in our various activities, children who join the summer reading program keep their minds active and enter school in the fall ready to learn and ready to succeed.

We do ask a couple of things of you as your children take part in this summer reading program. The library is unable to keep an eye on unattended children, so please remain at the programs with your children. Keep track of the number of minutes your children read. This time log will be used to award prizes at the closing party to children who have read the most minutes over the summer.

The time log used by the summer reading program will award prizes to children for every two groups completed. Prizes cannot be exchanged or substituted this year.

1.      Burger King Ice Cream Certificate
2.      Del Taco Certificate
3.      Chick-Fil-A Certificate
4.      Café El Lago Certificate
5.      Boondocks Certificate- Good for Miniature Golf or Laser Tag

We will be keeping track of children who complete all five certificates; their names will be entered into a drawing for a special prize at the end of the summer reading program.

In addition, this year we are asking you to build a volcano (or similar science experiment) at home with your children, and to bring it in to the library to be entered into another contest where prizes will be drawn at the closing party. We’d love to see these experiments in the library as part of our decorations for the summer.

Finally, our last exciting activity that is a new addition to this year’s summer reading program is the “Book Swap” - bring in books that your children have read and outgrown for “Brain Bucks.” On the final day of the program your children will be able to use their “Brain Bucks” to choose new books from this collection to take home and read.

Thank you,
