Utah STATEWIDE book club

Some of the libraries in Utah have told their customers about this. Others are still lurking. There is an online book group for everyone in Utah (yes that means you). The topic of the next one: The Favored Daughter by Koofi.

It is about a Fawzia Koofi, young woman in Afghanistan whose father was in politics before he died. She was able to carry on his legacy and be in the legislature. She is still in it today and hopes to run for President of the country in the next election.

She's fascinating because she's someone young in a male dominated culture that is making inroads. She's all about human rights, women's rights. and equality. "Ban the burqa." She is definitely someone to watch out for in the world. Find out more about her: http://www.fawziakoofi.org/

Read the book and then come online for the discussion on Feb. 25. Register today: http://favored.eventbrite.com/

You can get copies of the book through the State Library. It's one of the Book Buzz books or you can order a single copy through Interlibrary Loan. Contact Kristen Stehel for details. kstehel@utah.gov
